Wow has it been a year already? Seems like yesterday we were writing these up. Well anyway, here’s my top 5 of the year and a couple other awards. A couple are likely going to surprise you, and there’s a handful I have yet to play that can’t make the list.
#5 – Scribblenauts (DS)

Starites ftw.
I was only able to get my hands on a couple DS games this year, but I did go out of my way to make sure I played this one. Despite it’s one giant flaw, the game is pure genius and completely different from anything I’d played in a long time. Here’s hoping the sequel fixes it’s horrid control issues.
#4 – Guitar Hero Metallica (Xbox 360)

Surprised? Figured you might be.
This one will likely raise a couple eyebrows. I love this game for a few reasons. The main one being, to be very blunt, is this is the only music peripheral game that was released this year that didn’t bore the shit out of me. I suppose a huge factor is the fact that Metallica songs are just fun as hell to play and fit my style better. They even have much improved note charts as well. Oh and it has Kyuss. Big bonus points there.
#3 – Peggle (360, iphone)

Addiction meter: 10/10
Pretty much said everything about this game in my review. Huge addiction that’s fun as hell with friends and challenging too. Haven’t played the add-on yet but it’s in the plans for early next year. If for some strange reason you haven’t at least tried this game, get on it.
#2- Call Of Duty – Modern Warfare 2

No shock here.
Another game to get reviewed in full at some point, the hugely awaited MW2 was no disappointment. The ridiculously badass (albeit somewhat contraversial) campaign, the always great multiplayer, and fun as hell spec ops with a friend are just too much to not love despite the glitches and broken lobby system.
#1 – Borderlands

Skags be gettin some SHR bling!
Despite almost everyone on my friends list playing this way before me, I had no idea what Borderlands even was. Now it’s my GOTY, go figure. Even if it does have that one, you know, problem. Great storyline and characters mixed with looting with friends is about as fun as it gets for me. I played through the campaign twice and have even played some of the DLC, which was released just a couple months after release with more on the way. A couple flaws, (one achievement did not unlock for me) but good stuff all in all.
Just missing the cut:
Shadow Complex
Batman Arkham Asylum
Some other random awards:
Best of the iPhone – Peggle, Canabalt, Battle Bears
Games I just can’t get into despite probably making the other guys’ lists – Beatles RB, Left 4 Dead 2
Best games I haven’t played yet – Assassins Creed 2, Dragon Age: Origins
Best game no one else has played yet – Trials HD
Prediction for next years GOTY – Crackdown 2
That’s it from me. Thanks for reading and here’s to what should be a great 2010 in games.

Another good list. Was kinda shocked to see #4 make that list, but having not actually played the game, it’s hard for me to make an opinion on that one way or another

I’m still playing Boarderlands. The Underdome is kicking my ass. PLaying this week: Bioshock 2 and Star Trek Online, which should be called Playing the Same Mission Again and Again Online.
