Seems fitting.
So yeah, due to bad monitors, partial laziness, and MW2, I’ve been slacking badly on good ol’ SHR. So here for your enjoyment is a review roundup of a few of the games of the last 6 months. Enjoy!
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
Another summer, another TW game. More of the same, with the exception of the new Daily and Weekly Live Tournaments, which really saved this one for me. In particular I got hooked on the Extreme mode, which wasn’t for the feint of heart. I love it.
Hi Rez: The Daily Tournies and Play-The-Pros are fresh and fun, and always there.
Low Rez: More of the same TW, it needs something new soon. And 600 MS points for a new course? Boo.
7.0/10
Guitar Hero 5
The GH series died with me at II, and with III being so horrible and World Tour only showing minor signs of improvement, I had low hopes here. I was surprised at how not bad it was, and the song list is strong. Playing as your avatar is fun too. However the note charts are still iffy, and the whole playable character fiasco didn’t win any points. I’ll play it as a change of pace, but even this diehard guitarist is growing tired of fretboards coming down my screen.
Hi Rez: Sweet venues as usual, good track list, the party mode.
Low Rez: It’s growing stale.

Beatles Rock Band/Lego Rock Band
The Beatles RB is a visual and audio masterpiece. It’s only issue with me goes back to the previous review: burnout. As much as I love (most) of their music, as the guitarist of the “band” it’s a tough game to get into due to my skills not being tested. That said, it’s a beautiful game that is a joy to play.
Lego RB has a sweet fretboard of lego notes, and well, Lego’s. A lackluster playlist of a wimpy 45 songs, is only saved if you export your “family friendly” downloaded songs. Pass on this one unless you have an obsession with RB or Lego’s. Or both. Rental at best.
Beatles: 9.0/10
Lego: 6.0/10
Borderlands
This game really deserves a full review, but for now this will do. A loot hoarding game with friends is about as fun as it gets. This game has a huge addiction factor and it’s characters are memorable. With DLC already out and more on the way, this game could win SHR’s GOTY award. Assuming it had any other competition that is.
Hi Rez: Addicting as hell, a very well balanced game with only a couple flaws.
Low Rez: I had only one major issue with this game, and if you’ve played it through, you probably know what it is.
9.5/10

Nice reviews. Can’t agree more on Guitar Hero 5, that series is dead to me. Even with the party mode, it just seems like a glowing cash cow. And yes, the Kurt Cobain thing really did it in for me, playable character or not; of all the dead people in the world to be represented without permission, a person who (if not murdered) killed himself out of self pity just shows how clueless Activision is.
