Well, just when you think this music genre proliferation is getting out of hand, Activision helps ready the ramp to go over said shark. Finally announcing what seemed inevitable, DJ Hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero are not only in the works, but will see release this year.
The long rumored DJ Hero will include a new peripheral (above), as well as a bunch of generes that weren’t represented in music gaming since Amplitude/Frequency were on the scene. Guitar Hero will likely include more of the same, with new innovations in note playing with plastic instruments. Band Hero sounds to be Activision’s answer to Lego Rock Band, with an E-10 rating and more family safe fare than Devil Warshiping Metal.
Update: Activision also confirmed Guitar Hero: Van Halen will drop this year.
So, are you interested in what they’re selling? Or is the music genre dead to you now? Or are you more interested in Harmonix’s trio of Rock instead? Sound off!

I think your comment about the impending “jump over the shark” was apt.
Though, I am insanely curious about the DJ Hero. lol

Guitar Hero 5 had better do something seriously drastic to win me over. I will say though, that the note charts in Metallica were greatly improved, and the new “long” notes are a nice challenge. So I guess i’m not quite burned out on GH games, yet.
I’m not sold on Lego RB and Band Hero yet.
DJ Hero? Have a strange feeling i’ll love it. Really not sure why.
