If you’re poor like me, you can sometimes find some amazing ways to improve your skill, other than through enhancement drugs.  Using headphones in games like CoD 5 can really boost your awareness, and make life easier for your neighbors . If you don’t know what I did by looking at this picture, hit the jump for some quick pointers.

Step 1: Simply put, using standard headphones (these crap headphones work fine, at a measly $20), you attach the wireless mic to the outer casing. In this case, a couple of tie-straps around the ear flaps fit well on this P.O.S headphone.

Step 2: Set your Preferences >> Voice >> To “speakers”, or “both”.  You then should adjust your game’s volume setting DOWN to allow the voice chat to come in louder, if necessary.

It’s not tested by me weather using a standard headset versus my wireless would also work, but I imagine it wouldn’t work very well, due to the extra wiring. Also, since the wireless mics are over-responsive to begin with, distancing your mic is another good way to stop irritating people you’re playing with. (Echo is completely eliminated with this technique!)

Thus, this rig is only good if you’re stuck with a wireless mic. If you don’t have one, I don’t suggest buying a headphone and mic separately, since a cheap Turtle Beach goes for nearly the same price as the wireless mic. Also, you can be seen by your friends without massive ridicule.

  1. Wouldn’t a can, placed in front of your tv, and linked to a can on your ear with a piece of string, suffice?
