Last week, Sony launched released put out the public beta version of PlayStation Home, a 3d avatar world full of… well, lots of fun stuff! SHR has taken PS Home for a test drive, and is going to break down all the fun things you can do in Sony’s new playhouse. Hit the jump for our impressions!

Just Kidding!

PlayStation home is a steaming pile of shit, at least in its current implementation. The game/world/whatever the hell it is doesn’t even load most of the time, instead greeting you with cryptic error messages. And get ready for loading screens!

You would think that the arcade and bowling alley areas would give you something to do. WRONG! Only one person can be on any given arcade at once, and if you’re dumb enough to wait at the arcade for one to come open (that’d be me, by the way…), you’ll quickly realize the games are glorified flash/browser games, and nothing near even the quality of a downloadable PSN or XBLA game (including Yaris, believe it or not).

You might enjoy hanging out with people, and checking out the world. Allow me to link a vid of your typical PS Home user:

I wish I could say that this is not indicative of the experience thus far, but it’s actually the only fun thing to do. Actually, I think this guy, whose video I saw on Gizmodo, has the only idea of having fun in Home at the moment:

Anyways, if you’re the kind of person who likes chatting with dudes who pretend to play chicks, go play WoW. At least there’s a game there. Otherwise, I guess you get what you pay for. Home is, at the moment, a boring, slow loading, 3D chat room, with almost no one worth talking to.

  1. 2 Comments in one!
1: I think competition is a very healthy thing for the consumer; if the PS3 continues to suck ass like it does, the 360′s game library doesn’t need to be as good to succeed. That said, I get a giddy, fanboyish feeling every time I see how much Sony fails every time it does something like this. Why? Because of the launch ads featuring “Do you want it? Do you need it?!”… Ugh.
2: The 2nd video made me laugh until it hurt a little. Seriously, that was hilarious. Bravo!!

  2. Agreed on the competition angle. I just wish there was a competition, as opposed to some NASCAR car racing against a Ford Focus..

  3. I guess the dust stays on my PS3 a little longer. I don’t even watch enough movies lately to give a shit about Blu-Ray either. The one person per arcade game is just, well, huh???
    Those vids are hilarious.
